¡¡¡¡I was on the main road through Birmingham s Westside entertainment district at 3pm on Friday, June 11 – the day the Euro 2020 competition kicked off with Italy beating Turkey 3-0 in Rome.

¡¡¡¡Of course, Broad Street is primarily a nighttime economy when it comes to entertainment.

¡¡¡¡But, ordinarily, it can never have been as quiet as this on the pre-weekend afternoon of the day one of the world s two biggest football competitions was kicking off.

¡¡¡¡Apart from the effect of three lockdowns in the past year, the Midland Metro Alliance is also still building the West Midlands Metro Westside Phase 2 extension between Centenary Square and 54 Hagley Road.
