The Outer Worlds 2 Announce Trailer

  3.15

  Credit: Youtube/Xbox

This is probably the greatest trailer in the history of video game trailers.

The Outer Worlds 2 will be an Xbox exclusive and comes from developer Obsidian Entertainment (Star Wars: The Old Republic 2 and Fallout: New Vegas).聽 Outer Worlds had a great sense of humor so it makes sense that the second one has been announced in a particularly hilarious fashion.聽 Check it out for yourself down below.

While no gameplay or plot details are revealed, they gave us a hilarious trailer and for that, we can be thankful.聽 If the voiceover wasn’t there, it would just be like any other trailer, but having the voiceover explain everything like the way the “slow-motion shots make everything seem cool and should bolster pre-sale numbers” makes it perfect.

The first Outer Worlds took place in an alternate future after 1901 where U.S President William McKinley was never assassinated.聽 Because of this, large business trusts were never broke up and corporations took over Earth, which ended up becoming a wasteland.聽 Now, corporations look to the stars to colonize new planets.聽 That’s where you come in.

There is loads of humor layered on top of the first-person action-RPG gameplay.聽 It plays like Fallout, with branching narrative choices, outlandish weapons, and ridiculous characters.聽 The first Outer Worlds is currently available on Xbox Game Pass, so you can give it a go while you wait for an official release date for the second one.

  Ron Perlman Transformers

  3.15

  Credit: Getty/Gregg DeGuire

The Transformers franchise is ready to take things to the next level and Ron Perlman is the actor to help them do it. In major Transformers news this week, it was announced that Perlman will be voicing Optimus Primal in the upcoming Beast Wars movie, 鈥淭ransformers: Rise of the Beasts.鈥?/p>

This rules. To be fair, the Transformers franchise needed a shakeup, as it had gotten a touch formulaic and stale with Michael Bay. Beast Wars is the way to do it, for sure, as we get a few new species of alien robots to battle each other. The new movie is giving us a full live-action look at the Maximals, Terrocons, and Predacons (and more Autobot/Decepticons obviously). Perlman will be playing Optimus Primal, the Maximal badass he voiced in the Power of the Primes animated series.

  View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Ron Perlman (@perlmutations)

The movie will be set in 1994 and is going to be a globetrotting adventure with typical Transformers-esque plot points (big battles! Mythology! Transforming!). But Perlman is a badass, so this takes the entire hype score up a full level. He鈥檚 voicing an alien who transforms into a giant gorilla. He鈥檚 named for the Autobot legend who he actually saves the life of and becomes pretty badass. No plot points are known yet for the movie but come on, Perlman is gonna kill it.

Most fans know him from his time as Hellboy or a million other things (Sons of Anarchy for me, he was outstanding in that). He鈥檚 also done a ton of great voice acting, including the earlier turn as Optimus Primal and in some video games (again, amongst a million other things).

鈥淭ransformers: Rise of the Beasts鈥?is coming to theaters in the summer of 2022.

  80s video games

  3.15

  Credit: Nintendo

While many gaming aficionados will tell you that video games were invented in the ’50s, most average gamers “know” that the first video game was Pong. That very simple tennis game was a far cry from ones that followed in the ’80s or even ‘90s video games, but it was one of the first widely distributed games available to take home and play with friends. It ushered in a brand new worldwide obsession. Video games, both the kind you played at home and the kind you’d find in arcades, were soon all anyone talked about. And by the time the ’80s rolled around, they were nearly everywhere.

There was a demand and everyone wanted a cut of the money made from supplying. While video games have come a fantastically long way since the ’80s, many are based on the groundwork laid by the early games from that decade. And, honestly, if we’re going to be nostalgic about anything, it’s not the first Call of Duty or even Tony Hawk Pro Skater. It’s Centipede and Frogger we talk about to our kids. It’s Tetris we still gravitate towards when we get a chance to play vintage games. But, with all the awesome, popular video games that made it out in the ’80s, which were our favorites? We’re taking a look at the games we loved best from each year of this defining decade.

People still pay top dollar for Pac-Man consoles. It was just that well-loved. It also set a precedent for marketable video game characters. You could soon find Pac-Man on literally anything and everything followed closely after by the rest of the family.

  Also Memorable: Missile Command

Just like Pac-Man, they’re still making Donkey Kong video games and merchandise. Talk about a lasting impact. Of course, Donkey Kong also introduced us to his “owner,” Jumpman… who would later become Mario.

Also Memorable: Frogger, Ms. Pac-Man, Centipede, and Defender

Tron was, in case you didn’t know, a trippy sci-fi racing game that first appeared as an arcade game. From there, it spun in a million different directions. From more games to a poorly received movie. While not all the Tron iterations have been massive successes, that first game still slaps.

Also Memorable: Q*bert, Time Pilot, and Donkey Kong Jr.

“You’re choosing Track And Field over Mario Bros?!” Yeah, man. We’ll get to Super Mario Bros. later but, for now, we have to mention Track And Field. The concept was simple: You run through all the various track and field events as if you’re in the Olympics. While not much progress has been made in the subsequent releases, the first game was still one of the first true button smashers. If you’re looking for a little 8-bit fun, this is still the best choice.

Also Memorable: Super Mario Bros. and Star Wars

Not only was this scrolling fighting game just a boatload of fun, but it was also groundbreaking. Soon after Kung Fu Master, we saw the release of games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Since it was loosely based on a Bruce Lee film, fighters’ vocalizations mimicked Lee’s. You probably remember pounding away on buttons and annoying everyone around you with those short, incessant grunts each time you made a move.

Also Memorable: Duck Hunt and Excite Bike

Here you go. Super Mario Bros. was the game that really, truly brought Mario and friends into the spotlight. The game was basically given away for free with all NES purchases that holiday season. That means there are millions of copies in the world… still. And yet if you have one of those original Super Mario Bros cartridge‘s in your possession, you could be sitting on a large fortune.

  Also Memorable: Gauntlet

If you know a nerd, you know a Zelda fan. From the moment The Legend of Zelda released in Japan, the game began making waves. Following Link on his adventures in Hyrule as he attempts to rescue Princess Zelda was the ultimate mix of fantasy, role-playing, and, yes, gaming. Head to any comic con in the world and you’ll still see a ton of Link cosplays.

  Also Memorable: OutRun

Technically, Maniac Mansion wasn’t released in North America on NES until 1990. However, the original Maniac Mansion was released in 1987 and it’s still flippin’ great. In its essence, it’s a simple adventure game where you help a guy named Dave save his girlfriend from a mad scientist. Depending on which character you choose, however, you have completely different quests you’ll need to accomplish. Worth mentioning: This was the first game Lucasfilm Games released.

Almost Memorable: Contra and Street Fighter 2

SMB3 took everything we loved about the original and made it that much better, more colorful, and even more fun to play. Depending on the condition of your game, selling an original cartridge of SMB3 could warrant some serious cash. Not exactly Scrooge McDuck money, but certainly enough to help pay off your mortgage.

SimCity was the first of its kind. It gave players a chance to try their hand at everything from conflict resolution to home building and city planning. It was a fun game without the intensity found in true button smashers. Plus, it provided us with a slew of Sim spin-offs that we still play today.

  Father Figures: Dad Mode

  3.15

“I’m a hairstylist and, due to Covid, I had to alter my work schedule completely. I’m home during the week with our three-year-old while our kindergartner is now in full time in person school.

Due to the lack of child care, my husband works days and I do the night shift.

It doesn’t matter how long his day was at work or how tired he is, the second he walks through that door he’s in dad mode. Chasing our daughter around the house for a hug and trying to find our son because he’s playing hide and seek immediately.

We basically have 15 minutes in between our schedules to catch up and chat about our days. When I’m gone at work he does school work, dinner, bath and bedtime by himself four nights a week. I often work weekends as well. Not only do I get home around 10:30 p.m., but I come home to a clean house, kids laundry done, and my dinner waiting for me.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not grateful for this man. I’ve definitely been the jackpot and appreciate all you do for our family.”

9 Funny Bathroom Signs For Some Good, Clean Potty Humor

  3.15

Need a reason for a funny bathroom sign? According to a 2016 study done by Houzz, most people spend about 30-60 minutes a day in their bathrooms. That鈥檚 roughly 420 minutes a week鈥?or more than 36 hours a year. If you鈥檙e spending that much time in your bathroom, you probably want it to look nice, right? 鈥淣ice鈥?is relative, though. One man鈥檚 all-original 1950鈥檚 pink tiled bathroom might be Heaven to him, but Pepto-Bismol Hell to his buddy. Maybe your Fixer Upper-obsessed partner shiplapped everything for a farmhouse look. Or maybe you鈥檝e gone sleek, grey, and 鈥渕odern.鈥?Whatever you do to the floors and the vanity, it might look pretty but it鈥檚 not entertaining.

鈥淏ut, does a bathroom need to entertain?鈥?Yeah, man. What if your phone dies and you find yourself tied to the throne for a while? You certainly don鈥檛 want to spend your entire 30 minutes hiding in the bathroom reading the back of the shampoo bottle. (You did that this morning in the shower.) You need something to stare at so you don鈥檛 end up contemplating what you鈥檙e doing with your life. We recommend adding some funny bathroom signs to your decor. Most of these aren鈥檛 very long, nor do they require much time. They鈥檙e more suitable for a quick trip by a guest instead of a long stay from a resident. (Light a candle, man!) They鈥檒l also help you laugh when someone clogs the john. But, we love these particular bathroom signs nonetheless.

This gem has a ton of writing. Hopefully no one is in a hurry when they come into your bathroom for the first time. Still. we love the idea of posting rules that should just be common sense.

This collection offers a little bit of something for everyone. There鈥檚 entertainment in the eye chart, goofy 鈥渞eviews,鈥?and still a list of rules or notes to follow when you鈥檙e using the loo. Fair warning: These come as prints and will need to be framed.

鈥淪prinkles鈥?are often seen as an inherently聽 鈥渃hildish鈥?invention鈥?unless of course, you鈥檙e talking about the bathroom. Sassy and simple, this sign is perfect for all you Chip and Joanna fans who want a 鈥渇armhouse鈥?look, even in the city. But its basic black and white coloring could help it fit in with just about any decor style.

With more unpainted wood framing, this rustic(ish) bathroom sign is yet another great option if you want a farmhouse or rustic feel to your bathroom. Plus, it鈥檚 pretty flippin鈥?funny. If your home is otherwise put together and perfect, this can be the sign that adds a bit of laidback, silly charm.

The beauty in this simple 鈥渟ign鈥?is that the scrolling words can work with just about any decor. There鈥檚 nothing particularly modern or farmhouse or 鈥渞etro鈥?about them, which makes 鈥淗ello Sweet Cheeks鈥?the perfect addition to any style of latrine. Bonus: If your bathroom is void of black, these word signs can easily be spray painted.

Wanna get your bathroom reviewed on Yelp? Well, that鈥檚 weird. This fake farmhouse bathroom sign features a 4.5-star rating, though, and would certainly add a bit of charm to an otherwise boring bathroom. Of course, if you don鈥檛 like sharing your powder room, you may not want to suggest your guests 鈥減oop here again.鈥?/p>

The roughed-up, been-in-the-dugout-for-decades look may not go over well for your downstairs powder room. However, if you鈥檙e a 鈥渂oy dad鈥?and those heathens have their own bathroom, this may be the perfect sign to hang over home plate (and by 鈥渉ome plate,鈥?we mean the toilet). This one’s a bit pricier, but it’s made of durable (and wipable) metal.

If your rustic WC is missing a little humor, we recommend this cutie. The frame would pair nicely with the 鈥淕et Naked鈥?sign above, but it would work well on its own, too. It鈥檚 small and discreet, so it can fit in even the most cramped space.

  Dad Raises Pride Flag

  3.15

  Credit: TikTok/wyattearptulsa

A dad made the ultimate show of support to his gay son by raising a Pride flag at their home, despite living in a part of the country where that鈥檚 not a super popular move. John Wyatt posted a video on Tik Tok of him with his 15-year-old son Caden raising the ally flag.

It starts with the dad saying 鈥渨e are fixing to shock Oklahoma鈥?and then his son raises the flag while Lady Gaga鈥檚 鈥淏orn This Way鈥?plays in the background. He captioned it 鈥淗appy Pride Month to y鈥檃ll, especially to my son. Love you Caden!鈥?and hashtagged it with #prouddad, among others.

@wyattearptulsaHappy Pride Month to y鈥檃ll, especially to my son! The video got more than 2 million views on Tik Tok. They went with the Ally Pride Flag, which is slightly different from the traditional Pride flag, after doing research about what would be most appropriate for them to fly for their son.

Caden told Buzzfeed he knew he was lucky to have such supportive parents since not all LGTBQ kids do. His father said he鈥檚 not trying to cause controversy, just show love to his kid.

鈥淲e鈥檙e letting people know it鈥檚 a safe place,鈥?John said to Buzzfeed. 鈥淚鈥檓 not trying to cause any controversy in the neighborhood, but maybe there鈥檚 some person out there who will see that flag and smile and feel safe.鈥?/p>

He said he got a lot of positive comments from the LGBTQ community saying they wish their parents were that supportive. He said he鈥檚 told them all if they ever need someone to talk to, he would be there for them, and if they were local, his home would be open for a meal. And if they need a 鈥渄ad hug鈥?John will be there with open arms.

It鈥檚 a great way to celebrate Pride Month, but it also shows just how much views are changing and how important acceptance is. Here鈥檚 what it comes down to, an enduring truth about parenthood that seems to get learned over and over, just love your kids. Love your kids no matter what, and show that love to them however you can.

  Wrestling Gender Reveal

The idea of gender reveal parties over the years has become a bit of a sore point for… well… pretty much everyone.聽 Each new announcement was trying to pull off something insane and crazy and in the process, these parties were just ruining a good thing beyond repair.聽 Things were escalating and getting out of hand, when would the madness stop?

Now, with that being said, I think what we all just really needed was more WWE-style gender reveal wrestling matches like this one that a New Jersey couple held for their family and friends.

You have to admit, this is pretty great.聽 The clothesline, the random guy coming in and smacking one of the wrestlers with a chair.聽 I’m not even a wrestling fan and I’d pay to watch more of these wrestling gender reveals.

While this is awesome, we just now have to prepare ourselves for the onslaught of literally every new parent announcing the gender of their child this way.聽 Hopefully, these won’t get too out of control, but this is just the beginning and I’m anxiously awaiting the inevitable WWE cage match gender reveal party.

Musical dad gains viral fame on TikTok

  3.15

  Credit: TikTok/dadlifejason

TikTok is still somewhat of a mystery to most of us over the age of 25, but that didn鈥檛 stop Jason Linton from finding his niche. While Jason was working as a teacher鈥檚 aide in a special education classroom, his students regularly talked about the newest TikTok dances and trends. In an effort to better relate to them, Jason took it upon himself to learn about the up-and-coming video platform. He expected his new knowledge would help him connect with his students, but he never anticipated the platform would change his life.

Jason created his first TikTok video about two years ago, and since then, the multitalented dad has accumulated nearly 8 million followers. Jason fuses his love of music with his love of parenting to create heartwarming TikTok videos, many of which feature one or more of his three kids.

The proud dad talks openly about adoption, cracking jokes about situations adoptive families regularly face. Strangers鈥?comments are no match for this dad鈥檚 wit. The levity Jason brings to ordinarily unpleasant situations is admirable – almost as admirable as the fact that he and his wife have fostered 11 kids over the years and adopted three.

  @dadlifejasonwe are clearly twins ##Buffering ##fathersday ##sheesh鈾?“Shake that A$$” by KueenD – koyuh

鈥淚 feel like a lot of people don鈥檛 really know what goes on behind foster and adoptive families, and as well as me and my wife being an interracial couple people have so many questions,鈥?Jason told News Nation Now.

On top of nailing parenting humor, Jason uses his skills as a musician to entertain his millions of fans and bond with his family. Jason frequently pulls out his talkbox to create masterpieces that his kids enjoy just as much as his followers, and honestly, we can鈥檛 get enough.

  @dadlifejasonThe right sound can bring so much peace. #arcade #losinggame #duncanlaurence #FriendsReunion #fatherdaughter鈾?original sound – DadlifeJason

For those who鈥檝e never seen one in use, a talk box is a tool that alters the sound of instruments. The musician places a tube in their mouth, creating electronic-sounding tunes that combine vocalizations with the sound of the instrument.

The success of Jason鈥檚 TikTok channel has been an empowering adventure. He鈥檚 tapped into a style of content that unites several aspects of his life, and the feedback he鈥檚 received from parents and non-parents alike reminds him daily that he鈥檚 doing something positive. Above all though, Jason is grateful for the opportunity to be a dad.

鈥淟earning how to do life together has been an adventure,鈥?Jason reflected, 鈥渁nd it鈥檚 been the most gratifying thing in my life.鈥?/p>

  Galaxy Quest TV Show

  3.15

One of the beauties of the streaming age is that there are many avenues via which content can be brought to life. There is always room for sequels, reboots, remakes, and adaptations, and if one avenue doesn’t work, the other might. We’re living in a golden age of fandom, and now fans of the sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest are getting their moment in the sun.

At one point, there was going to be a sequel to the 1999 movie in which the cast of a Star Trek-type show find themselves participating in an actual intergalactic conflict. Starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell, and Alan Rickman, the comedy has amassed quite the following in the twenty years since it was released, and news of a sequel was very welcome.

Unfortunately, Alan Rickman passed away and being that the sequel was supposedly going to focus on his character, those plans were squashed. But now an actual member of the Star Trek crew (in the JJ Abrams’ movies) is here to save the day!

Simon Pegg – the star and writer of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, as well as the modern Scotty (he also wrote the last Trek movie, Beyond) – is working to reboot Galaxy Quest as a TV show. Pegg is writing the show with Georgia Pritchett, who has written for Veep, Succession, and the British show The Thick of It and created the upcoming The Shrink Next Door with Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd.

No details on the plot of the GQ show have emerged (will it run back the original story in the form of a TV series or will it serve as a sequel of some kind?) but Pegg and Pritchett can definitely be trusted to find the funny.

All of this begs the obvious question: Will the original cast be back? They seemed up for the idea of a sequel, so it鈥檚 definitely possible. Maybe Pegg will even find a way to get his friend and frequent collaborator Nick Frost on there!

Hero vets shave off 6 lbs of matted fur from stray dog

  3.15

  Credit: TikTok/kcpetproject

Being a stray dog is no easy life. Your next meal isn鈥檛 guaranteed, you鈥檙e forced to endure the elements, and your fur becomes a magnet for the dirt you accumulate sleeping on the street. Recently, one Missouri stray was dealt a particularly difficult hand because of his thick, perpetually-growing hair. Typically, non-shedding dogs need regular grooming to maintain their coats. But when no humans are there to care for them, their formerly glorious manes can become life-threatening.

When a 20 lb Shih Tzu arrived at the KC Pet Project in Kansas City, his discomfort was immediately clear. The stray dog was covered in thickly matted fur, which greatly inhibited his ability to walk and move without pain. Shocked by the severity of the poor dog鈥檚 condition, the heroic vets immediately got to work.

Oftentimes, matted fur can lead to horrific skin conditions. But after sedating the dog and diving in, the vets were both shocked and relieved to see relatively healthy skin underneath. Staff at the nonprofit named the 11-year-old dog Simon, and they shared his astonishing transformation on TikTok. After freeing Simon from his hairy situation, he had a new leash on life.

In total, vets removed 6.5 lbs of fur from Simon鈥檚 tiny body. To put that in perspective, the amount of matted fur Simon carried is equivalent to a 150 lb person carrying around roughly 72 extra pounds. The TikTok video detailing Simon鈥檚 unbelievable transformation has been viewed over 53 million times, with fans around the world rooting for the underdog.

Simon blossomed under the care of the KC Pet Project staff. In a second video update, Simon walks with a spring in his step. He wags his tail happily, likely the first time he鈥檚 been able to do so in years. The KC Pet Project takes in multiple animals in desperate need of medical care every day, animals just like Simon who deserve a second chance at a happy life.
